Garden Lighting Design

Everyone loves a beautiful garden. In summer, they provide the perfect space for a garden party, coffee with friends or even a romantic dinner with your special someone. Come winter, although we may not spend as much time outside, there is still something magical about looking out at the space while snuggled up inside with a hot chocolate. But what completes the space? Is it the finely trimmed hedges, the outdoor furniture or the tree-lined perimeter? Here at LA Lounge, we believe that lighting is the most important aspect of any space, even in an outdoor setting. Our experienced and professional architectural lighting team can help you with all aspects of lighting. Whether you need help choosing the most aesthetically pleasing lights for your space or more technical advice such as fixing wall acne or dark marks, they should be your go to team. LA Lounge can help you work through your initial concepts to create the perfect finished project, all while ensuring it runs to your time, budget and desires. We have plenty of garden lighting design ideas to get your thoughts flowing and inspire you to light up your garden.

One of the simplest ideas to create the perfect garden party space is to install hanging string lights. If you have any raised fixtures you can hang these to, then that is a great place to start, otherwise, hanging them within trees and bushes also looks effortlessly chic. String lights are both easy to find and typically pretty inexpensive. If you are looking for the cheapest option, you can always opt for fairy lights as they provide a similar glow, however, the larger globes are in fashion at the moment. Due to its simplicity, this style also works in any garden and is purely down to your taste! Wherever you feel needs lighting in your garden, you can achieve the look with these globes. If you don’t want your lights to steal the show, draping them across plants or a wall, as you can see in the image below, is a great choice. This creates a subtle yet beautiful illumination in your garden, without being too focal or over the top. If you want these lights to be the focus of your garden, installing cement poles to the bottom of planters at each corner of your patio creates a great height to drape lights in between. This look will transport you straight into a Parisian cafe where you can enjoy a café au lait et pain au chocolat!

When planning your garden lighting design, it is important to consider which areas you would like to accentuate. If there is a large tree or bush in your garden, this is a good starting point. As you can see in the image below, up lighting in a garden can beautifully accentuate features within the space. This style especially works for textured surfaces such as beautiful old trees and perfectly trimmed hedges. Up lighting is achieved by strategically placing lighting fixtures and facing them up towards a focal area. Here at LA Lounge, we recommend using the DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) compatible AX2 light to light up the focal areas in your garden space. The AX2 light is adjustable up and down and comes in a flawless stainless steel or copper finish. DALI lights are used by many reputable international companies and come with a range of benefits. Not only are they easy to set up and simple to use, they can even be reconfigured through your smartphone or computer! The system is also economical because it is dimmable, features simple wiring and is digitally managed. Because of this, you don’t need to fuss over hiring a skilled worker to handle the cabling during the initial installation or during alterations later on.

If your garden space is looking more modern and concrete, it is important to light the space to highlight texture while accentuating the greenery. Up and down lights can achieve this, as you can see in the image below. The down lights in the image accentuate the plants and grass, while the up and down lights beautifully accentuate the brick texture of the pillars. Even if your space has little to no greenery, a line of pot plants or succulents can achieve a similar effect to light up. This stylistic choice creates the perfect, welcoming space for anything from a garden party to a romantic candlelit dinner. Here at LA Lounge, we recommend the DALI compatible Zoom – SW5. The Zoom is energy efficient, durable and has a long lifetime as it is a build in LED light, perfect for regular use in a garden space. As it is DALI compatible, it is dimmable so you can pick the perfect lighting scheme for your space. The Zoom also looks incredibly chic in the black and bronze on offer, and we even provide them in custom colours on request. As it is also a DALI compatible light, you know you are purchasing from an internationally reputable brand.
